How to use
- Enter your pay and choose how it is paid: per hour, per day, per week, every two weeks, twice a month, per month or per year.
- Check the schedule: hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year. The defaults are a full-time 40-hour, 5-day week paid all 52 weeks.
- Read every other pay period in the results. Your starting period is highlighted, so you can see an hourly wage as a yearly salary or a salary as an hourly rate at a glance.
- All figures are gross pay, before taxes, insurance and retirement contributions are taken out.
How to convert hourly pay to an annual salary
Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work in a week, then by the number of weeks you are paid in a year. A full-time job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours a year.
Example: $25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year. A quick rule of thumb is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros: $25 an hour is roughly $50,000 a year.
How to convert a salary to an hourly rate
Divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. For a standard full-time schedule that is 2,080 hours.
Example: $60,000 a year ÷ 2,080 hours = $28.85 an hour. If you regularly work 45 hours a week on a salary, the real hourly rate is lower: $60,000 ÷ (45 × 52) = $25.64.

Biweekly, semimonthly and monthly pay
Biweekly pay comes every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year, so two months a year have three paychecks. Semimonthly pay comes twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day, which is 24 paychecks a year. That is why a biweekly check is a little smaller than a semimonthly check for the same salary.
Monthly pay is the yearly amount divided by 12. A month is not exactly four weeks: 52 weeks ÷ 12 months is about 4.33 weeks, so a $1,000 weekly paycheck works out to about $4,333 a month.
Frequently asked questions
How many work hours are in a year?
2,080 for a full-time job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. The U.S. federal government uses 2,087 hours, the average over a 28-year calendar cycle that includes leap years, to set hourly rates for salaried employees.
Should I count vacation and holidays?
If your vacation and holidays are paid, keep 52 weeks: you are paid for them. If you take unpaid time off, such as two unpaid weeks, enter 50 paid weeks a year.
Is this my take-home pay?
No. These are gross figures. Federal and state income tax, Social Security, Medicare, health insurance and retirement contributions are taken out before your paycheck, so take-home pay is lower.
How do I compare an hourly job with a salaried one?
Convert both to the same period with the hours you would really work. Salaried jobs are often exempt from overtime, so 50 hours a week on a salary can pay less per hour than an hourly job with overtime at time and a half.
Is my pay sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and the numbers you enter are not sent or saved.
