How to use
- Draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or type your name to use a script font, then click Use this signature.
- Choose the PDF to sign. Under the page you need, click Add signature (and Add date if the form asks for one), then drag the box onto the signature line and resize it from the corner.
- Click Download signed PDF and open the file to check the signature sits where it should before you send it.
Sign a PDF without printing it
Leases, permission slips, job offers and many other forms only need your signature on a line. Instead of printing, signing and scanning, you can add the signature to the PDF itself. This tool keeps the original document exactly as it was, including its text, links and form fields, and adds your signature and date on top as part of the page.
Your signature is made in your browser and the PDF is never uploaded, so the document and your signature stay on your device. Nothing is saved after you close the page.
Is an electronic signature legally valid?
In the United States, the federal ESIGN Act and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act adopted by almost every state say a signature cannot be refused only because it is electronic. That covers most everyday agreements, such as rental applications, school forms and many business contracts.
There are exceptions, such as wills, some court documents and certain notices, and the person asking for the signature can require a particular method. If a form says it must be signed in ink, print it and sign it by hand; if it asks for a certified digital signature or an e-signature service, use what they specify. This tool adds a visible signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.
Tips for a clean signature
Sign larger than you need on the pad and shrink the box on the page; small strokes look shaky when enlarged. Blue ink makes it clear the page was signed rather than copied. Place the signature so it rests on the line, not floating above it, and add the date next to it if the form has a date field.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Draw on the signature pad with your finger, then place it on the page by dragging the box. A larger screen makes placement easier for long documents.
Does signing change the rest of the PDF?
No. The pages, text and form fields stay as they were; the signature and date are added on top. You can still select and search the text in the signed file.
Can I add more than one signature or initials?
Yes. Click Add signature under each page where you need it, as many times as you like. For initials, draw your initials as a separate signature first.
Is my signature stored?
No. The signature exists only on this page while it is open and is never uploaded or saved.
