- Click SCAN ANOTHER to read the next code.
Read a QR code from a screenshot or image
Phone cameras can only scan a QR code they can see. When the code is already on your screen, in an email, a PDF ticket or a screenshot someone sent you, save or copy the image and decode it here instead. It also works on a computer without a camera.
If nothing is found, crop the image closer to the code, use a sharper photo with even light, and make sure the whole code, including its three corner squares and a little white border, is in the picture.
What a QR code can contain
The decoder shows the raw content and recognizes the common types:
| Type | Looks like | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Website link | https://… | Check where it goes before opening |
| Wi-Fi network | WIFI:S:HomeNet;T:WPA;P:…;; | Copy the password |
| mailto:… | Start an email | |
| Plain text | Any text | Copy it |
Check a link before you open it
Scammers stick fake QR codes on parking meters, restaurant tables and flyers, and send them in emails ("quishing"), to lead people to fake payment or login pages. The US Federal Trade Commission advises checking the web address a QR code opens before you enter anything.
Decoding the code here shows the full address first. Make sure the domain is the real one, look out for misspellings, and do not enter a password or card number on a page you reached from an unexpected code; go to the official website or app yourself instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I scan a QR code on my computer screen?
Take a screenshot (Windows: Win+Shift+S, Mac: Cmd+Shift+4), then paste it here with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
Why can't it read my QR code?
The image may be blurry, too small, cut off, or have glare across the code. Try a closer crop or a new photo in even light. Very damaged codes cannot be recovered.
Does it read barcodes too?
No, only QR codes. Use the Barcode Scanner for product barcodes such as UPC and EAN.
Are my images or camera video uploaded?
No. Decoding happens in your browser; images and camera frames never leave your device.
