How to use

1. For a timer, pick a preset such as 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or set hours and minutes and tap Set.
2. To count down to a day, choose Date & Time and tap Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Day, or choose any date and time.
3. Tap Start. The clock shows days, hours, minutes and seconds, and the time left also appears in the browser tab.
4. When time is up, an alarm beeps (sound is on unless you turn it off). Keep the page open in a tab until then.

Countdown to the holidays

The holiday buttons always pick the next one, at midnight in your own time zone, and switch to the following year once the day has begun. Thanksgiving is worked out as the fourth Thursday of November.

Count down to your own date

Choose Date & Time and enter any day and hour: a vacation, a wedding or graduation, a grandchild's visit, the first day of retirement, or the deadline for open enrollment. The clock shows how many days are left, and the hours and minutes once the day gets close.

Pick the time as well as the date if it matters, for example 9:00 AM for a flight or an appointment, since the countdown otherwise ends at midnight at the start of that day.

Everyday timer uses

Kitchen timing, a medicine that needs to steep or cool, a parking meter, a load of laundry, a 25-minute focus session or a short break. Presets cover the common lengths, and a custom timer goes up to 23 hours 59 minutes.

The timer counts against the real clock, so it stays accurate if you switch to another tab. Some phones pause web pages when the screen locks, so for an important alarm keep the screen on or use your phone's built-in timer as a backup.
